Football’s Matt Butler Signs with Trinity University

April 23, 2025

Senior Rattler Matt Butler signed his NLI today with San Antonio’s Trinity University to continue his academic and athletic football career.

Butler was a three-year starter for the Rattlers, beginning in the Alamodome in 2023 at Safety.  He received First-Team All-District honors at Defensive Back and Punt Returner while leading the Rattlers as a captain in his senior year.

He also received First-Team All-District as a junior, contributing to the undefeated 27-6A District Champs while being in the top three in tackles.

He contributed to the 2023 district championship team, starting every game.  Butler amassed 130+ tackles over three years as a Rattler Safety, winning the Defensive Player of the Game honor five times.  Those include Roosevelt in his sophomore year, Johnson and Roosevelt in his junior year, and Clark and Churchill in his senior year.

Butler received Player of the Game as the Rattlers’ Punt Returner, returning two touchdowns for the Rattlers while playing an important role on a defense that pitched six-plus shutouts in his junior year.

He also received All-State Academic Honorable Mention and Skills Player of the Year for the Rattlers in 2024-25.

“Matt is one of the fiercest competitors I have ever coached,” said Coach Reagan Head Coach Preston Meyer.  “He came to work every day driven to be great.  Matt is an exceptional leader who elevated the play of those around him.  He has been the cornerstone of our secondary for the last three years and Trinity is lucky to have him.”

Butler plans to major in Business with an Accounting emphasis at Trinity.  We wish Matt all the best as a Trinity Tiger!
