New Rattlers Strike ‘Em at Food Bank Service Project, Sophomore Food Drive Ongoing

June 23, 2022

Almost 70 incoming Reagan freshman football players spent a fast-paced morning at the San Antonio Food Bank Tuesday packaging bags of produce for families in need and learning about what the Food Bank does for SA and the surrounding areas.

The group previously known as Bush and Lopez 8th graders, along with some football moms and three Reagan coaches – AD Coach Hamilton and coaches Meyer and Remmers – to blow away their goal of 1200 bags of produce in two hours, bagging instead over 1800.  They worked extremely well as a team and showed how well they’re learning the Reagan Way as incoming student athletes.  They also donated over 50 jars of peanut butter to the Food Bank Inventory.

Rising sophomore football players are continuing to help by organizing a food drive – anyone who will be on the Reagan campus for Venom or Sport-Specific camps can bring non-perishable food items through Monday, June 27th.  There is a labeled bin inside the Rattlers Den by the football locker room to drop the items in.

The SA Food Bank covers 29 counties around San Antonio, serving 90,000 people per week.  That translates to 74 million meals annually.

Some of the most-needed items are:

  • Beanut Butter
  • Cereal
  • Tuna
  • Beans
  • Rice
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Chili/Soup
  • Baby Food/Diapers
  • Canned Lunch Meats
  • Pet Food
