April 5, 2019 – Reagan tennis had 8 players take 1st or 2nd place at districts to advance them to regionals. Kyle Totorica took 1st place in boys singles defeating Madison high school’s Shawn Alonzo 6-0, 6-4 in the semi-finals and then Lee high school’s Andre Torres 6-0, 6-2 in the finals. Kyle started the final match red hot as he hit winner after winner from the baseline to take the first 7 games of the match and to take home his 1st district championship. In girls singles, Alex Zink came in unseeded but took 1st place defeating Johnson high schools #2 player and 2 seed Kimberly Duncan 7-6, 6-3 in the semi-finals and in the finals defeated #1 seed and Johnson high school’s top player Isabela McKinley 6-4, 6-4. In girls doubles, #1 seed Bailey Godwin and Kyndall Quiroz took 1st place while dropping only 2 games in the tournament and that was to #2 seed Ruchi Seghal and Orren Schachaf from Reagan high school 6-1, 6-1. Both teams will advance to regionals. Bailey and Kyndall defeated Churchill’s Purcell and Mauldin 6-0, 6-0 in the semi-finals while Ruchi and Orren defeated Churchill’s Hanna and Organ 6-3, 6-4. In mixed doubles Jeffrey Xia and Maansi Shah took 2nd place losing to Madison high school’s Lauren DeLeon and Joe Banda 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a tough battle.
Next up for Reagan tennis is Regionals on April 17-18 at McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio. The top 2 finishers in each bracket will advance to State on May 16-17 at Texas A&M.
