This Friday and Saturday 7 boys and 2 girls competed at Region 4-6A UIL wrestling championships held at Littlejohn Gymnasium. All 9 wrestlers battled onto the second day. It was a tough field of wrestlers from 40 different schools and in the end 4 wrestlers earned State qualifying spots.
So Shobhana Spielmann (107) was your Region 4 champion. She again pinned all her competition. Her shortest match lasted 35 seconds and her penultimate match went into early 3rd period.
Jr Grant Schneiders (144) won 3rd place pinning his opponent from Madison. He reached the consolation finals after dropping his semifinal match to the ultimate champion.
Sr Connor OBrien (132) won 5th, securing an alternate bid. After dropping quarterfinals match to the ultimate champion, he battled up the back of the bracket wrestling hard but ran up against wrestle back rules and was unable to contest for a 4th place spot.
So Mekyela Garcia (152) placed 6th securing a 2nd alternate bid. She battled in the consolation bracket after dropping her quarterfinals match.
UIL 6A State wrestling championship will be held at the Berry Center in Cypress on Fri Feb 16 and Sat Feb 17. We are so proud of how all our wrestlers competed and represented our school throughout the season and wish the seniors well as they move on to bigger and better things.
