Your Rattler wrestlers were hard at work yesterday at the 2nd Annual Sharyl Pederson Tournament, placing 12 athletes in the top 4. The Boys team took 1st place out of 25 teams with 199.5 points, while the Girls finished 5th out of 24 teams with 70.5 points.
On the Boys’ side, five wrestlers made it to the finals, with three claiming gold. Four others battled through the backside of the bracket to make it to the consolation finals with two earning bronze and two taking 4th place:
Senior Bryson Bjorkman (175#) placed 1st, earning 24 team points.
Senior Captain Max Pechman (120#) placed 1st, earning 23 team points.
Senior Captain Grant Schnieders (144#) placed 1st, earning 22.5 team points.
Junior Ethan Hamlin (215#) placed 2nd, earning 22 team points.
Junior Caedmon Garcia (285#) placed 2nd, earning 20 team points.
Sophomore Miguel Gutierrez (150#) placed 3rd, earning 19.5 team points.
Sophomore Zaiden Hernandez (106#) placed 3rd, earning 17.5 team points.
Junior Abdi Wirkus Camacho (157#) placed 4th, earning 16 team points.
Junior Alex Franco (138#) placed 4th, earning 14.5 team points.
On the Girls’ side, one Rattler earned gold and two brought home bronze:
Junior Captain Shobhana Spielmann (114#) placed 1st, earning 21 team points.
Junior Hannah Dunn (126#) placed 3rd, earning 17.5 team points.
Junior Captain Mekyela Garcia (152#) placed 3rd, earning 13 team points.
With the Road to State beginning in less than two weeks, the Rattlers will have one final Tri-Dual at home on January 23, where they will honor their Senior athletes who have given so much to the program. Come cheer them on in the Rattler Den!
