Reagan Tennis Summer 2018 Information
We will be hosting several times at the Reagan High School courts for informal doubles and singles play. All are welcome, but you should be able to compete and play points. The plan is to play pro-sets of doubles and singles (if court space allows). Be sure to hydrate and bring water with you for these sessions. It will be hot! All of the times are contingent upon the weather and a couple of the sessions may disappear if Coach Daniel goes out of town to work a tennis clinic. Please sign up for the Remind grouping to receive messages and updates about the summer workouts (and the varsity tryouts). Text @reagantenn to 81010 to receive those messages. Coach Daniel promises not to clutter your phone! The summer workouts are not planned to last longer than 2 hours.

2018-2019 Tryout Information
***No prospective athlete at Reagan High School may participate in tryouts without completing their online participation paperwork AND turning in a current doctor’s physical and medical history. Any prospective athlete who does not get these items completed will be removed from the program; this is a non-negotiable items for ANY Reagan athlete. Online participation forms and physical/medical history forms may be accessed at the following link:

Varsity tryouts will be held August 6-10, 2018, at Reagan High School. On Monday, August, 6, 2018, players will need to meet in the Athletic Building in room A100/A101 (trophy hall between the two gyms) to ensure that paperwork and physicals have been turned in and to go over information for the tryout process. This meeting time will begin at 9:00 a.m. Please do not be late. The remainder of the tryouts will take place at the Reagan High School tennis courts on August 7 through August 10. Play will begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and will attempt to conclude by 3:00 p.m. August 10 is reserved as an extra day in case of inclement weather. Varsity players will begin playing school matches the following week (including the Northside ISD tournament August 17 and 18).
If you are unable to attend the tryouts for some reason, please be sure to contact Coach Daniel via email at DDanie@neisd.net to discuss other arrangements. Please be advised, however, that no spots will be “held” for any players.
JV and Developmental team tryouts will be conducted the first two weeks of school. The tryouts will be conducted during 7th and 8th periods and after school during that time frame. We will be looking at match play, drill capabilities, stroke mechanics, footwork, physical fitness, and effort, amongst other items. At the end of the first two weeks, we will section the players into the developmental (7th period) and JV teams (8th period). We will do what we can to avoid cuts if at all possible; however, we do have limited space with just six courts, so it is a possibility that cuts may have to be made. Again, please be sure to have all physical paperwork and online paperwork done prior to the start of the school year. Thank you. Please note that some people who will be involved in the JV/Developmental tryout process will have already gone through the varsity tryouts. There is no straight pass onto the JV team through attending the varsity tryouts.
It is recommended that all prospective players for the Reagan High School tennis teams be involved in a hitting clinic over the summer and/or playing competitive tournaments. There are many capable hitting clinics available in San Antonio for a wide range of players and budgets. Just make sure that you are maximizing your time on court with full effort so that you improve. If you wish to seek private lessons through Coach Daniel, please send a text through the summer Remind group, and we will attempt to facilitate the player’s needs. Please note, however, that no guarantees are made to players who do take private lessons from Coach Daniel (or any other coach, for that matter). We all want to see the players improve; the extent of that improvement is ultimately up to the individual player and the effort he/she puts in on his/her court time.
For beginning competitive players (not true beginners, but those who are new to tournaments) and intermediate players, check out sajuniortennis.com for a schedule of Gran Prix events in town. For intermediate to advanced players and those who wish to succeed at the varsity level, check out youthtennistexas.com for lists of Challenger, Champ, Super Champ, and Open level events held throughout Texas over the summer. Good luck to each and every one of you! We are looking forward to another great year at Reagan for 2018-2019!
