Last Saturday Reagan hosted the 10th Annual Gillespie Classic in the Rattler Den. This unique tournament follows a Dual format, where teams are bracketed to compete head-to-head in each weight class. Points are awarded for each match (6 points for a pin, 5 for a tech fall, 4 for a major decision, and 3 for a decision).
The Varsity Boys put up a fierce fight, making it to the finals and securing a hard-fought victory over Judson in an incredibly close dual. Every athlete demonstrated not only technical skill but also heart, fighting smart and selflessly — even in the face of defeat, refusing to give up by pin. The Varsity Girls also made an impressive run to the finals, earning 2nd place in a highly competitive field.
On Friday, our JV team had an outstanding performance at the Round Robin Tournament, with 11 athletes finishing in 1st place in their respective pools: Gabryela Garcia, Mee Mai Whitethorn, Yari Pellicer Cruz, James Davis, Luis Pimentel, Abdi Wirkus, Camacho Connor, Vigil Jack, Glenn Jacob Dozier, Ricky Del Villar, and Israel Jimenez.
A HUGE thank you our sponsors Cavender Auto Family (@cavenderautofamily), Hulme Orthodontics (@hulmeortho @hulmeorthodontics), Jax Construction and M5X Designs for helping make our annual event a huge success!
Next up Rattlers travel to Corpus to dual Veterans Memorial on Thursday, and then on to the Sharyl Pederson Tournament at Madison High School – JV competes on Friday and Varsity on Saturday.
