Rattlers rally past Steele, 6-3

Your Reagan Rattlers spotted Steele a 3-0 lead (2 of the runs unearned), then came back to tie, pitched out of some jams, and won the game 6-3 on a bases-loaded triple as time expired in the bottom of the 6th.  Friday afternoon’s win at Steele HS improved Reagan to 3-0 in pool play of the Judson Tournament, 8-2 on the season.  Steele dropped to 1-2 in pool play.

Reagan threatened in the bottom of the first with back-to-back, 1 out singles by Jr 3B Josh Garza and Sr 2B Logan Nottebrook and a wild pitch moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, but a ground and pop-up left them stranded.

Starting pitcher Jr Nick Dovalis was touched for 1 run in the 2nd and a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd.

With 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 3rd, Your Rattlers rallied.  Nottebrook ripped a double down the LF line on an 0-2 pitch.  Sr 1B Brad Hall worked a walk, and both runners moved up a base on a passed ball.  Sr C Alex Kendall singled to CF on a full count to score Nottebrook and move Hall to 3rd.  Pinch runner Jr Keith Casey stole 2nd, and So RF Austin Hays tied the game with a clutch single to LF after fouling off a couple of pitches with 2 strikes in the count.  3-3 after 3.

In the top of the 4th, Steele loaded the bases with 1 out and the top of the order coming to bat.  But Dovalis came up big by inducing a pop-out to Hall struck out the last batter looking.

Reagan loaded the bases in the bottom of the 4th with 1 out after two walks and a Garza bloop single down the RF line.  But a pop-out to catcher and a strike-out looking squandered the opportunity.

Relief pitcher Jr Tyler Dauer gave up an infield single with 1 out in the 5th, but a Nottebrook-to-Trevor Knight-to-Hall (4-6-3) double play ended the inning.  After yielding a lead-off single (following a dropped foul pop-up) and a stolen base in the 6th, Dauer registered a swinging K on a full count, got a hustling catch of a foul pop down the RF line by Jr 1B Cody Moon, and left the runner stranded at 3rd with a strike-out looking.

With the 2 hour time limit expiring, Reagan won the game in the bottom of the 6th.  After a lead-off error, Jr LF Diego Flores singled to RCF.  Garza walked to load the bases.  With the infield and outfield drawn in, Nottebrook bombed a triple to dead CF, clearing the bases.  Dauer got the win, running his record to 2-0.
